Meet Kristy Herring
Kristy is an experienced educator, leader, and global outreach advocate with over 20 years in education and community engagement. She has led numerous programs in partnership with underserved communities in South Africa, Mexico, Haiti, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. As the Founder and Executive Director of Ministry Beyond Myself, she has built partnerships with grassroots organizations to implement projects that address educational, healthcare, and economic development needs. She has presented at international conferences and has received numerous fellowships for her contributions to global education and community service. Kristy has supported migrant and refugee populations through her work in K-12 public schools, as the Director of Community Engagement for Global Refuge (formerly Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services), and with numerous grassroots organizations that serve vulnerable populations. To extend her global grassroots work, Kristy developed Journey Guide Consulting to driving positive change locally and nationally through innovative programs, systems thinking and collective impact. She is devoted to her work and the communities with whom she has had the privilege of partnering.

Journey Guide is rooted in the belief that systems are a network of relationships that exist between individuals, groups, and institutions and are designed to SOLVE shared problems not to create or to spur them. When systems are created and/or begin to function to the detriment of some members of the populace it becomes necessary for those who are proponents of equity, justice, and equal access to disrupt the system.
Mission
To equip individuals and organizations to cultivate authentic community partnerships, build coalitions to address systemic inequities, and develop regenerative solutions that create sustainable, thriving communities.
Vision
We envision thriving, regenerative communities where every person has equitable access to opportunities, essential resources, and the support needed to flourish. In these communities, 1) vulnerability is reduced through collaborative action, 2) quality education and accessible healthcare are available to all, 3) economic opportunity is shared equitably, and 4) neighborhoods are marked by safety, well-being, and hope.
